Épée Fencing
One of the three weapons used in modern Olympic fencing is Épée.

Rules and Scoring:
– In épée fencing, a touch can be scored by hitting any part of the opponent’s body with the tip of the sword, including the hands and feet.
– Touches can only be scored on the opponent, and double touches, where both fencers hit each other within certain time limits, do not count.
– The first epee fencer to score a touch is awarded a point, and if both fencers score simultaneously, both receive a point.
– A preliminary round bout is fenced to 5 points or expiration of 3 minutes, a direct elimination bout is fenced to 15 points or expiration of 3x 3 minutes. This is always the case and not competition format dependent.
Weapon: Epee Fencing
– The épée is lightweight thrusting weapon with a pliable triangular-bladed tip. It typically weighs approximately 770 grams and has a maximum length of 110 centimetres.
– Unlike the other two weapons, the entire length of the épée’s blade is considered as a valid target area.
– The tip of the épée has an electronic scoring system that detects touches.
